Jani-King EVS Training

The Jani-King training program is a combination of written exams, video and hands on demonstrations. Jani-King’s training programs ensure task, frequency and the use of proper procedure when using chemicals and equipment when performing cleaning assignments. Each manager, supervisor and employee will be required to understand and pass a written test relative to subject proficiency. This training will be required annually with modification inputs as needed.

Jani-King EVS Training program provides extensive training manuals detailing policies and procedures on many subjects, the following are just a few of the 54 procedures covered including infection control, JCAHO, HIPPA, operating room disinfection and maintaining healthcare floors.

Along with the training manual are training videos that cover the complete EVS program. All staff are trained to understand the concepts of disinfection and are technically proficient to provide quality services to the organization. EVS staff is required to pass the written competencies of the 54 procedures within the EVS Program. The following is an overview of the areas covered in the Jani-King EVS training program.

Training
Theory of Infectious Cleaning

This training focuses on importance of preventing the spread of infectious bacteria through proper Environmental Services (EVS) procedures. The training discusses common EVS and medical terms, builds understanding of aseptic cleaning, presents information relative to Material Safety Data Sheets, and outlines the chain of infection in the hospital. The program also reviews each part of the chain with emphasis on Source Method of Transmission and Susceptible Host, illustrates Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), worn and used by housekeepers, demonstrates strict procedures for gowning and removal of protective clothing. The training also covers personal hygiene, correct hand washing procedures and many technical details.

Body Substance Isolation

This training explains in detail the proper implementation of Body Substance Isolation (BSI), also referred to as Universal Precautions, in hospitals and medical institutions.The importance of wearing PPE is presented. Also, the training demonstrates the procedures for the handling of infectious waste, blood, and other human or chemical matter. This training puts into perspective the importance of preventing problems before they happen.

Safety for Hospital Housekeepers

This training is extremely important for all-environmental service management and staff to review. The training presents a straightforward view of safety and how the Environmental Services department can implement safety procedures. The safety-training program uses the eight rules of safety. This training shows common causes of accidents. Safety is everyone’s business. Training encourages staff to report all injuries, defective equipment and to remove spills and objects from the floor.

Cleaning the Occupied Patient Unit

This training explains the procedures EVS staff follows when cleaning occupied units. This program shows how to improve sanitary conditions and prevent the spread of germs. A comprehensive list of environmental service tasks, including high and low dusting, wiping, sanitizing floor care, trash removal, and organizing the room is presented. The training shows a step-by-step approach to cleaning and reinforcing questions are asked throughout the program.

Cleaning the Patient Rest Room

Explains the procedures to properly sanitize patient rest rooms. Demonstrates efficient preparation and organization of an EVS cart. Examines the “liquid” method of cleaning rest rooms. Discusses linen removal, rest room odor control, loading of dispensers, and end shift duties. It features steps to clean and disinfect: the toilet, sink and counter, shower and/or tub, mirrors and splash marks. It shows how to perform high dusting, trash removal and relining, dust mopping as well as wet mopping, and restocking supply items. Rest room cleaning is an extremely important function of the Environmental Services department.

Cleaning the Operating Room

Reviews the risk of infection in the operating room and importance of maintaining maximum operating room cleanliness. Shows proper handling of blood and body waste receptacles, and how to re-supply the operating room. The program demonstrates how to remove soiled linen from the operating room, remove trash and debris, clean operating room table, overhead lights, walls, floor, arrange operating room furnishings, and to inspect for exceptions. The training follows OSHA federal guidelines and PPE mandates. The training will show the environmental service staff how to perform each cleaning task efficiently and professionally.

Carts, Closets, Equipment & Supplies

This training will show the proper procedures for loading environmental service carts, maintaining equipment, managing the environmental service closets and using cleaning supplies. The training shows how these preparations improve efficiency, simplify EVS tasks and help avoid subsequent cleaning errors. Program will discusses each of these specific subjects: Supply closets, equipment, and chemical supplies, supply item care, dust and wet mops, buckets, wringers, and carts. This is a video that can actually make money for the Environment Services Department. This program encourages and promotes taking care of equipment and other items so they last longer.

Stripping and Finishing Hospital Floors

Explains the theory and proper equipment and procedures for professionally stripping old floor finish, then preparing and recoating hard floor surfaces. Analyzes various types of stripping chemicals, including liquid and pre-measured. Demonstrates the importance of following chemical instructions. Discusses complete floor machine operation and maintenance, including pads and brushes. Shows how to properly move and replace hospital furnishings. Presents how to: Prepare to refinish a floor, clear the area of furnishings, post cautions signs, strip and rinse the floor and check for dryness, apply new finish to floor, return furnishings and inspect.

High Speed Hospital Floor Maintenance Manual Methods

Explains the theory and practice of high-speed burnishing to restore resilient hard floors, and repair scuffs and marks without build-up. Describes how to extend the life of floor finish and maintain a just finished "wet look." Reviews the necessary equipment and chemicals, including use of floors pads and drive blocks plus equipment maintenance. The training introduces the following procedures: Preparing the floor, dust mopping, how to apply high-speed finish, perform high-speed burnishing, and how to maintain equipment and care for supplies.

Maintaining Hospital Carpet

This training takes a deep down look at carpet, and outlines three methods of carpet cleaning for hospitals. These methods are: hot-water extraction, rotary floor machine shampooing, & the spin-pad bonnet method the program shows how to: Prepare carpet to be cleaned, clearing the area of furnishings, posting caution signs, removal of stains, replacing furnishing, inspecting work, and returning equipment and supplies. Carpet is fast becoming a popular floor covering. It is an expensive investment for any hospital. These procedures show how to extend the life of carpet through proper maintenance.

Cleaning the Discharge Unit

In this program the cleaning steps are clearly shown to help EVS staff clean the room quickly and easily. Germs are given a thorough treatment, while the environmental service staff is protected against the exposure to disease. BSI is shown as the recommended procedure. Training will cover trash removal, bed sanitation, dust, and wet mopping floors and other cleaning tasks. Training will clearly show the procedures to be followed under BSI, or Universal Precautions guidelines.

Hospital Housekeeper Rules of Conduct

Program outlines the "do's" and "dont's" that EVS staff should follow on very assignment. The "do's" include: customer relations, respect, working quietly, reporting mistakes and breakage, security rules, burglar/fire alarms, conservation of supplies, knowledge of equipment, organization of supply closet, mops, buckets, wringers, dress code, health and safety requirements, MSDS, safety glasses, shoes and gloves, talking to supervisors and ordering supplies. The "dont's" include: harassing, intimidating, threatening, arguing, fighting, profanity, theft, undesignated rest areas, smoking, visitations of friends, absences and tardiness, alcohol and illegal drugs, firearms, sleeping and radios/TV.

Standard Precautions in Hospitals

This program explains in detail the proper implementation of Standard Precautions in Hospitals, which is a recent ruling by OSHA. The goal of the ruling is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases from patient to patient, patient to hospital worker, person to person and from room to room. This is required due to contagious diseases such as: AIDS, Hepatitis B, Pneumonia, and many other infectious diseases.
The training shows what precautions are necessary to take to abide by this federal guideline. Personal Protective Equipment is shown and how it is to be used on the job.

Hospital Daily Floor Maintenance

This program covers the daily maintenance procedures for carpet and resilient tile floors. To-dos include: Large Industrial vacuums, tank type vacuum cleaners, hose attachments, “Hooky” hand drives suits, Selection and use of dust mop heads, gum removal, toy brooms, radiator brushes and dustpans. Content explains using disposable mop heads and many other relevant daily floor maintenance topics, upright vacuum cleaners, moving furniture, start positions of furniture, and working around computers.

Hospital Office Cleaning

The training program covers the theory and practice of cleaning offices and other areas of a hospital. The routine for cleaning an office can also be applied to lobbies, entrances, employee rest areas, training rooms and office work areas.
