Does Your Commercial Cleaning Business Pass the White Glove Test?

Feb 4, 2012 | Posted by Jani-King |

The reliable, low-tech dust rag.

The dust rag our great-grandmother used to polish their parlors is now called a microfiber cleaning cloth. Whatever you choose to call it, however you use it, the dusting device continues to be the number one weapon in a commercial cleaning business’ arsenal to keep everything clean and presentable.

It’s a proven fact that most dirt enters an office via the soles of the people working there. Dirt knows no curfew, entering gleefully after a 6am run, a midnight stroll with the pup, and each and every comings and goings in between. Next to the bathroom, workers will gauge the cleanliness of their office by how much dust sticks to their finger after they run it across the communal copier.

This is where a great commercial cleaning business comes in handy, like Jani-King.

In the lost art of the dust rag, a commercial cleaning business knows that doing things in order is paramount to doing things right. Dust, like everything else, is married to gravity, so when dusting, start at the top. Use a dust cloth and start at the highest point in the room, such as the ceiling lights, the tops of windows and door frames. Since dry dusting just stirs dust around and spreads it through the air, make sure the cloth is slightly damp. Follow the damp cloth by a polish with a dry cloth, especially when dusting wood. A cleaning franchise knows to avoid using commercial polishes. They’re dust attractors and breathing in these products every day can be harmful to your health.

An office space free of dust will not only contribute to the overall health of the client’s office, it will improve attitudes as well. And that means your commercial cleaning business will never again be the victim of a white glove attack.
