Jani-King International, the world’s largest commercial cleaning franchise
company, announced its latest community awareness program today at the 2007
American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services Convention and Tradeshow.
The program, titled Clean Hands. Clean Surfaces., was developed to provide
information and awareness about the importance of proper hand washing and
surface disinfecting in all workplaces including hospitals.

“In a healthcare environment it is critical to follow all necessary
procedures in order to reduce the spread of disease and illness, thus resulting
in less deaths from infections,” said Mark Regna, Director of Healthcare for
Jani-King International. “But this program is not exclusively for saving lives
in hospitals. Clean Hands. Clean Surfaces. also educates business owners and
facility managers on how to drop the number of employee sick days by decreasing
the spread of germs in the workplace.”

Each and every day, individuals become sick from poor hand washing and poor
surface disinfecting, according to Regna. “Because our company provides cleaning
services to all types of facilities, we have the ability and resources to make
our client’s facilities a healthier place to work and visit,” said Regna. “This
program may seem like a common sense approach, but not everyone washes their
hands after leaving the restroom. Each year, unnecessary illness and death
occurs as a result of poor hand washing and inadequate surface
disinfecting.”

Although Jani-King is launching Clean Hands. Clean Surfaces., the company
encourages all business to adapt the program and commit to keeping their
facility clean and healthy. “We have created information packages that can be
sent, at no charge, to any company wanting to find out how this program can
benefit them,” said Regna. “Business can request a package from us, and then use
it as a model for creating their branded message.”
