Jani-King of Kansas City is proud to announce that they have presented a college scholarship to Marefia Bekele of Olathe North High School on May 8, 2006. Debbie Sinopoli, President of Jani-King of Kansas City, presented Bekele with her scholarship plus a sweatshirt from Johnson County Community College where she will be attending this fall.
“Jani-King had interests from multiple schools for the scholarship.” stated Debbie Sinopoli, President of Jani-King Kansas City. “In the end, Olathe North High School won out.” Jani-King of Kansas City visited with Donna Gurss of Olathe North High School in November of 2005 to discuss the possibility of creating a scholarship for a student that may not be able to continue their education if not for the scholarship.
The scholarship includes tuition to JCCC for two years. The only stipulations of the scholarship was the recipient had to be enrolled full-time in a 2-year program which will culminate in an Associate’s Degree or Certificate of Completion.
To attract potential recipients, the scholarship was advertised through the Olathe North scholarship bulletin and on the Olathe North website in February of 2006, creating great exposure for Jani-King of Kansas City.
Bekele, born in Ethiopia, moved with where family to the United States three years ago so that she and her two sisters could pursue a better education.
